Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University

Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University (VMOU) was previously known as Kota Open University. A State Open University, VMOU was established in November 7, 1987. The University is a member of The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and it is recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi. VMOU is not funded by UGC.

The establishment of VMOU (Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University) took place with the amalgamation of two institutes of correspondences courses viz. Institute of Correspondence Studies and Continuing Education Jaipur and (College of Correspondence Studies) Udaipur, to strengthen and achieve proper coordination among the scattered vast distance education resources and to serve high quality education.

The university headquarter is located at Kota and it has its jurisdiction in the whole of the state of Rajasthan.
VMOU has also started Placement Assistance Services for the students of VMOU.

VMOU Salient Features

• Simplified admission procedure.
• An extensive network of 6 Regional Centers (Ajmer, Bikaner, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota and Udaipur) and 65 Study Centers in the state for student support services.
• No Upper age limit for admission.
• No ceiling of minimum passing percentage; the knowledge of Reading and Writing alone is required for some programs (e.g. Certificate Course in Food and Nutrition)
• Admission twice in a year (January and July)
• Equal opportunity without any discrimination
• Work experience considered essential in some Career Oriented Programs (e.g. MBA, B.Ed.)
• No basic qualification is required for B.A./B.Com. Preparatory courses through informal stream.
• Counseling sessions conducted by Subject expert.
• Study based on Credit System
• Fee is payable in two installments. The first installment is charged @70% of the fee and is payable with the application form while the second is payable on demand.
• Quality Study Material in the Self Learning Material (SLMs) format is made available immediately after admission from the concerned regional centre on the spot in all the courses of six-month duration and for other courses it is sent at the residential addresses of the learners in time.
• Study material also available in the form of Audio-Video Cassettes.
• Library facilities available at the University as well as Regional and Study Centers.
• Students registered as regular, Students in Universities & Colleges can join as part time students in selected programs.
  

VMOU Study Centres

At present Regional Centres are functioning at:

1. AJMER
2. BIKANER
3. JAIPUR
4. JODHPUR
5. KOTA
6. UDAIPUR
   

Four types of Study Centres are operating in different parts of the state:

1. Regular Study Centres.
2. Program Specific Study Centres e.g. B.Ed.
3. Cliental Specific Study Centres e.g. for women and army.
4. Satellite Study Centres for rural and army areas.
   

Following are the facilities available at study centres

1. Separate reserved space in a local educational institution.
2. Limited working hours.
3. Part time staff from host institution.
4. Rooms for counselling and conduct of examination
5. 86 study centres have been set up in different cities in the State. Each study centre is provided with TV, Audio, library, and Video facilities. Study centres function on all holidays and Sundays and are supervised by the coordinators.
