Established on 8th January, 1947 and earlier known as University of Rajputana, the current University of Rajasthan is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Rajasthan. The university was renamed to its current name in 1956. The university attracts students from all over the state as well as India.

The University of Rajasthan is a multi-faculty University and is recognized under 2F and 12B of University Grant Commission (U.G.C) since its inception. 

The University has 36 Post Graduate Departments, 15 recognized Research Centers, 6 Constituent Colleges and 500 Affiliated Colleges spanning 6 districts. The location of the University is overall urban and hip.

The UGC set up an Academic Staff College (ASC) for the university in the year 1988 for the overall development of the university and college teachers. ASC conducts refresher courses for the teachers and is recognized as one of the first ten best ASCs of India.

University of Rajasthan Campus

The University is located in an urban area, and its Central Campus is spread over 285.50 acres. The satellite campus, which also comprises of the Constituent Colleges, is spread over 149.53 acres.
